  • Steve Schneider encouraged my work in Earth System Science while I was at Stanford

  • I had the great pleasure of studying with evolutionary biologist Stuart Kauffman in the early days of the Santa Fe Institute, at the inception of neural networks/AI and complex systems research.

    These experiences profoundly shaped my life and career.

  • I’m relishing being a mother to 2 boys in NYC.

  • I love to scuba dive and ride horses.

  • I love the diversity of landscapes on our planet. I've visited over 85 countries and all 7 continents. Some of my favorite places:

    • deserts & drylands: Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Arabian Peninsula, Botswana

    • polar regions: Iceland, Antarctica

    • tropics: Grenada, central Java, Sri Lanka, Panama, Philippines

    • highlands: Guatemala, New Mexico, North Carolina, Laos, Taiwan

    • subtropics: Madeira, Pico Island of Azores
